This is my entry for the Alternative Hair Show, for which I was a finalist in the Avant-garde category 2023. The theme was "Legends" I was inspired by Audrey Hepburn in My Fair Lady, and this is the creation. The feathers, hat, dress base and trail down the back are made from hair. Pipe cleaners are used for the spine of feathers. Hair mesh is used between 2 layers of black toule and black wire sewn around the perimeter to mould into the desired shape. Polystyrene balls are used as a base, and hair is wrapped over to create the shapes. Model: It's important to find the "Model" that will fit your creation. In this case, Amelia to me has similarities to the Legend Audrey Hepburn.

Part 1 wig cap prep Thanks to Model Sierra and Anna assistant This is a great technique for creating custom-fitted wigs tailored to the specific head size you are working with. This will ensure a natural fit. Tools required: Sectioning clips, brush, tail comb, snap clips, wig sock, Saran Wrap,/cling film, masking tape, light hairspray. The technique is making flat to the head pin-curls by travelling around the circumference of the head. Practice makes progress

Part 2 Wig cap prep Thanks to Model Sierra and assistant Anna. Tools required: Saran wrap, tape. Take a piece of Saran Wrap to cross over the head from ear to ear. Have the model hold at the chin area securely while you start to form around the head shape, creating darts on the curvature of the head. Ensure the Saran Wrap is snug and tight before the next step.

Part 3 Wig cap prep Thanks to model Sierra and assistant Anna. Tape cover completed. Tools required: Cutting comb (use the bone/back of the comb). Marker pen, scissors for cutting the shape. Using the full roll will result in a stronger durable wig cap. Use the bone of the comb to iron out any bumps, which will smooth the surface. Cut around the outer shape to fit snugly.

Thanks to model Sierra an assistnt Anna. In this video, we paint the wig cap. (At the time of filming this video, I wasn't aware that the tape was available in black.) Using the lighter tape has its advantages as you can paint it to the colour of your choice. Ensure the paint is fully dry before adding the hair. Also, mark an F inside for the front.
